Inaugural Poetry Month set for August

Red Room Poetry will present the inaugural Poetry Month in August this year.

The program will include daily poetic commissions by high-profile poets, a poetry-meets-songwriting competition, an international First Nations poetic exchange and a national youth poetry competition, where every entry sees a tree planted. The program will be accompanied by poetry ambassadors, an events calendar and workshops and other participatory initiatives.

‘Across the world, poetry is celebrated as the lifeblood of literature and culture,’ said Red Room Poetry artistic director Tamryn Bennett. ‘To launch Poetry Month in Australia gives space to poetic possibilities and voices that enrich our lives, illuminate our futures and our conversations as a nation.’

Poetry Month will be held in August as an ongoing annual celebration. For more information, click here.
