Vale Margaret McKenzie

Margaret McKenzie, co-owner of the former Seagulls Bookshop in the Melbourne suburb of Williamstown, has died.

Co-owner of Seagulls and McKenzie’s husband Nick Chapman writes:

‘Margaret died suddenly on Saturday, March 27, just weeks short of her 80th birthday.

‘Artist, illustrator, co-owner of the Seagulls Bookshop in Williamstown, Victoria between 1995 and 2011; mother and grandmother. Encourager, life-enhancer and, as Dr Johnson almost said, she touched nothing that she did not adorn.

‘Anybody who knew her from her book trade days would know what she contributed in terms of her love of  children’s books and her skill in creating and maintaining the look of our bookshop, first in Cole Street and then in Nelson Place, Williamstown.’
