Amazon opens POD facility in Western Sydney

Amazon has opened its first Australian print on demand (POD) facility at its Western Sydney fulfilment centre.

Publishers and self-published authors will need to enrol their titles in the POD program for Amazon to then print and deliver books to customers upon being ordered.

In a statement, Amazon Australia category lead for media and books Matt Benham said the new facility ‘means that we will be able to get millions of paperback titles to customers faster than ever before’. ‘We are also excited about the benefits Print on Demand brings to the thousands of Australian self-published authors who have been keenly waiting for the launch of an Australian facility.’

Through the POD facility, authors using Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing service will have faster delivery of paperback copies of their works, as well as proof and author copies, which previously had to be printed overseas.
