Writing NSW Emerging Writers mentees announced

Writing NSW has announced the successful applicants for its new Emerging Writers Mentorship Program for emerging writers from Indigenous or culturally diverse backgrounds.

The successful applicants are:

  • Deniz Agraz
  • Jackie Bailey
  • Karina Ko
  • Anith Mukherjee
  • Ellen O’Brien
  • Gary Paramanathan.

The six winners will each receive a prize of $1000, mentoring from Roanna Gonsalves and Writing NSW membership.

Writing NSW said it had also allocated additional funding to provide a manuscript assessment and Writing NSW membership to a further six shortlisted authors: Saimi Jeong, Tabitha Laffernis, Harold Legaspi, Gayatri Nair, Youjia Song and Rosana Wayand de Andrade Pinto.

The program judges said the high number of excellent applications demonstrated the ‘extraordinary depth of talent that exists among culturally diverse emerging writers in Australia’.

‘The astonishing breadth of genres and styles submitted for this program suggests we are in for a treat, with richly layered and skilfully told stories coming our way from the next generation of Australian storytellers,’ they said.
