PANZ 2021 conference program announced

The program for the Publishers Association of New Zealand Te Rau o Tākupu (PANZ) International Conference, to be held in Auckland on 20 August, has been announced.

The program of speakers and panels will ‘explore the way forward for a publishing industry that’s gone through significant upheaval over the past 18 months’. Topics will include the impact of Covid-19 on the industry, how environmental issues are influencing publishing decision-making, and the ‘potential impact of Amazon spreading its delivery wings into Aotearoa’.

Guests, who will appear in person or via video link, include Tim Brown, founder of sustainable shoe brand Allbirds; tech guru and futurist Benedict Evans; and International Publishers Association president Bodour Al-Qasimi.

An early international rights breakfast session featuring directors from the Frankfurt Book Fair, the Bologna Children’s Book Fair and the Guadalajara Book Fair in conversation with Oratia Media publisher Peter Dowling, will precede the formal program.

The final line-up of speakers for the conference is yet to be confirmed.
