Ghosh to headline Ubud Writers & Readers Festival Perth

Writing WA has announced the program for the inaugural Ubud Readers & Writers Festival (URWF) Perth, running from 8–10 October at the Rechabite Hall in Perth’s CBD.

UWRF Perth will be a hybrid festival of live events in Perth and Bali, with digital participation from interstate and international literary guests. Headlining the festival is Indian writer Amitav Ghosh.

Australian guests include Julia Baird, Meg McKinlay, Anne Aly, Gillian O’Shaughnessy, Rebecca Higgie, Cass Lynch and Brigid Lowry. Alongside Ghosh, international guests include Indonesian writers Ayu Utami, Desi Anwar and Johannes Widodo, as well as American author and journalist Vincent Bevins.

URWF Perth is the culmination of a 10-year working relationship between UWRF and Writing WA, which has included the sponsorship of various West Australian authors to travel to the festival in past years and Perth hosting the Kembali 2020 event last year. Writing WA CEO Sharon Flindell said: ‘It is a thrill and an honour to collaborate with Ubud Writers & Readers Festival on this innovative program to mark the 18th year of this celebrated international literary event.’

Following three days of UWRF Perth, Ubud Writers & Readers Festival will continue in Bali until 18 October.
