Agius to head Welbeck ANZ, NSW bookstores reopen

Bernadette Agius has been named as the inaugural managing director of Welbeck ANZ, while Juliet Rogers has been appointed managing director of Echo Publishing.

After a long lockdown, retail in New South Wales has reopened. Meanwhile, Melbourne Writers Festival has launched a new podcast and a slate of free digital events.

The winners of this year’s Viva la Novella prize have been announced, as have shortlists for the Richell Prize and the Bragg Prize for Science Writing.

Overseas, Zanzibar-born British novelist Abdulrazak Gurnah was awarded this year’s Nobel Prize for Literature. Book sales in Italy are up 29% for the year to date, and the shortlists for the National Book Awards and Giller and Goldsmiths prizes were also revealed this week. In the UK, Bloomsbury withdrew a cookbook by Michelin-starred chef Elizabeth Haigh over plagiarism allegations.
