The shortlisted titles are:

  • ‘Let’s Talk Trojan Bee: Stories’ by Alex Cothren
  • ‘The Best of Both Worlds’ by B D Lovell
  • ‘In Real Life’ by Dominic Amerena

Established in 2021 by RMIT University and Giramondo Publishing, the biennial prize aims to ‘uncover and support writers who embrace new literary modes and extend the possibilities of the novel and short story form’, and is open to Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand writers ‘who explore the expansive possibilities of literature’.

The prize is judged by writer and RMIT academic Rose Michael, Giramondo associate publisher Nick Tapper and reviewers Declan Fry and Astrid Edwards.

The winner, who will receive $5000 prize money, a mentorship from Giramondo and a week-long residency at RMIT’s McCraith House, will be announced on 10 November.
