US publishers to attend LBF in ‘limited’ capacity; Russia banned from fairs

Large US publishers including Hachette Book Group and HarperCollins US will only attend this year’s London Book Fair, which runs 5–7 April, in a ‘limited fashion’, reports the Bookseller.

This year’s fair is the first to be held in-person in two years. Although 184 of the 850  exhibitors listed are from the US, many told the Bookseller they will only be sending a skeleton crew.

HarperCollins and Macmillan Trade US both confirmed they would be attending the fair in ‘a limited fashion’, while the Bookseller understands no one from PRH US is planning to attend. Hachette Book Group is planning to have two people attend, while Simon & Schuster is expecting around 10 to attend.

In related news, organisers of the Frankfurt Book Fair and the Bologna Children’s Book Fair have suspended their cooperation with Russian authorities organising collective stands at their fairs, amid calls from the Ukrainian Book Institute for a global boycott of Russian books and publishers.
