International Booker 2022 longlist announced

The longlist for the 2022 International Booker Prize, worth £50,000 (A$90k), has been announced.

The longlisted titles are:

  • Cursed Bunny (Bora Chung, trans by Anton Hur, Honford Star)
  • After The Sun (Jonas Eika, trans by Sherilyn Nicolette Hellberg, Lolli Editions)
  • A New Name: Septology VI-VII (Jon Fosse, trans by Damion Searls, Fitzcarraldo Editions)
  • More Than I Love My Life (David Grossman, trans by Jessica Cohen, Jonathan Cape)
  • The Book of Mother (Violaine Huisman, trans by Leslie Camhi, Virago)
  • Heaven (Mieko Kawakami, trans by Samuel Bett & David Boyd, Picador)
  • Paradais (Fernanda Melchor, trans by Sophie Hughes, Text)
  • Love in the Big City (Sang Young Park, trans by Anton Hur, Tilted Axis)
  • Elena Knows (Claudia Piñeiro, trans by Frances Riddle, Charco Press)
  • Happy Stories, Mostly (Norman Erikson Pasaribu, trans by Tiffany Tsao, Giramondo)
  • Phenotypes (Paulo Scott, trans by Daniel Hahn, And Other Stories)
  • Tomb of Sand (Geetanjali Shree, trans by Daisy Rockwell, Tilted Axis)
  • The Books of Jacob (Olga Tokarczuk, trans by Jennifer Croft, Text).

A six-book shortlist will be announced on 7 April and the winner on 26 May.

The Man Booker International Prize is awarded to a book translated into English. The prize money is shared equally between the winning writer and translator, and each shortlisted writer and translator also receives £1000 (A$1800).

Last year’s winner was French author David Diop for his novel At Night All Blood is Black (trans by Anna Moschovakis, Pushkin). For more information about the award, click here.
