Australian Reading Hour moves to March from 2023

Australia Reads has announced that its flagship event the Australian Reading Hour, which has run each year in September for the past decade, will not take place in 2022, with the national celebration of books moving to March from next year.

The next Australian Reading Hour will take place on Thursday, 9 March 2023.

‘The change in date provides an opportunity to start the year with Australians reading together, and moves the campaign out of the busy spring season, with Love Your Bookshop Day, school exams and preparations for Christmas trading for many of our partners,’ said the Australia Reads team in a statement.

‘In 2019, the Australian Reading Hour registered over 300 partner events around the country, and in 2021 the digital program reached over 80,000 Australians,’ said Australia Reads. ‘While there will be no 2022 Australian Reading Hour, preparations with new and existing partners are in full swing to develop an inspiring program of events for March 2023.

‘The Australia Reads team looks forward to reading and sharing stories with book fans and partners on the day, and in the run-up to the event.’

EOIs for those interested in hosting a partner event will open shortly. In the meantime, information about Australia Reads Ambassadors is available in a directory here.
