Inaugural Deep Creek residency recipient announced

Matilda Bookshop in the Adelaide Hills, in partnership with Writers SA and Ultimo Press, has announced Corrie Hosking as the winner of the inaugural Deep Creek Residency Fellowship for a South Australian writer.

Hosking’s winning manuscript ‘Clutch Feathers, Draw Breath’ was chosen from a shortlist of seven.

‘We loved reading the clear, compelling, visionary, experimental words of all of the shortlisted authors, but we were particularly riveted by Corrie Hosking’s elevated use of language, vivid connections between the natural world and mental health, and stunning sense of (South Australian) place,’ said the judges. ‘We can’t wait to see where this manuscript goes with the opportunity and guidance this SA residency provides.’

Hosking recieves a $500 travel/living subsidy, a week-long residency at Grass Tree Gully in Deep Creek on the Fleurieu Peninsula, a mentorship session with writer Hannah Kent, and an initial one-hour phone consultation with Ultimo Press.

‘Creating the Deep Creek Residency Fellowship has been one of the most fulfilling bookshop projects we’ve ever undertaken and we’re very proud of our achievement in making it happen,’ said Matilda Bookshop in a statement. ‘The Deep Creek Residency Fellowship for a South Australian writer will be offered annually. We look forward to many years ahead supporting our local literary community.’
