Rimmer buys Collins Orange

Author Kelly Rimmer has purchased Collins Booksellers Orange, NSW from founders Phillip and Margaret Schwebel.

After 22 years, the Schwebels sold the store to Rimmer, a long-time customer, with the intent to retire. However, a Collins Orange social media post said Margaret Schwebel plans to continue working in the store part time ‘for some time yet’.

‘We know how much Orange loves the Schwebels so we’ve placed a very special guest book on the shop counter so you can come and leave a note of gratitude for them at any time over the next few weeks,’ said the store in a Facebook post.

Rimmer is the author of several books including The Things We Cannot Say, The Warsaw Orphan and most recently The German Wife (all Hachette). ‘I’m so excited to connect with readers and authors and other booksellers over the coming months and years,’ said Rimmer, sharing news of the sale on Instagram.

Books+Publishing understands there are currently no plans to modify the layout of Orange‘s only remaining bookshop, but that Rimmer is planning a new series of monthly literary events.
