In the US, the Department of Justice’s (DoJ) trial to block Penguin Random House (PRH) from acquiring Simon & Schuster (S&S) began in Washington DC on 1 August.

Witnesses called over the first two days of the trial include Hachette Book Group CEO Michael Pietsch, literary agent Ayesha Pande, author Stephen King and S&S CEO Jonathan Karp. PRH CEO Markus Dohle is expected to testify on Thursday.

Publishers Weekly, which is reporting from the courthouse, has summaries of the first and second days of the trial. The case is set to run for around three weeks.
