Scribe & Varuna announce 2022 fellows

The recipients of the 2022 Scribe & Varuna Fellowships have been announced.

The fellows and their projects are:

  • Sam Elkin for ‘Shapeshifting’
  • Jacqueline Wright for ‘Beauty and Menace’
  • Nevo Zisin for ‘What We Start With’.

The Scribe & Varuna Fellowships combine a week-long residency at Varuna, the National Writers’ House with an intensive mentorship with Scribe editors.

‘The three chosen authors each have strong, unique voices, creating fully realised characters through vivid language while offering dynamic new perspectives on our present moment,’ said Scribe senior editor David Golding. ‘It’s exciting to see where these characters and these stories will go, and we look forward to working with the authors to develop their manuscripts at Varuna.’

This year’s program focused on literary fiction, and received close to 200 manuscript submissions. The manuscripts were assessed by authors George Haddad and Mirandi Riwoe, who compiled a shortlist for the Scribe editorial team, who then selected the winners.

For more information about the residency, see the Varuna website.
