Hardie Grant announces 2022 Spark Prize shortlist
Hardie Grant Books and RMIT Writing and Publishing have announced the shortlist for the 2022 Spark Prize for narrative nonfiction.
The shortlisted entries are:
- Katerina Bryant for ‘Queen Pawn’
- Sam Elkin for ‘Pit Pony’
- Clare McCracken for ‘Killing Snowmen’
- Sarina Singh for ‘Gender Reveal’
- Becca Wang for ‘Birth Right’.
Hardie Grant said it was ‘blown away by the breadth and storytelling power of the entries we received this year’. ‘The future of Australia’s narrative nonfiction space is very bright and we are honoured to be a part of it.’
As reported earlier this year, the winner, to be announced at the end of August, will receive $5000 cash prize, an increase from $2000.
The winner will also receive a six-month editorial mentorship with Hardie Grant Books and a one-week residency at RMIT’s McCraith House on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. Meanwhile, the shortlisted candidates receive a book bundle from Hardie Grant and a two-hour editorial session with a Hardie Grant Books editor.
Established in 2020, the Spark Prize is a biennial development prize for narrative nonfiction open to published and unpublished Australian authors.
