New paid Hachette traineeship

Hachette Australia has announced a new paid entry-level publishing traineeship intended to address the lack of diversity in publishing.

The traineeship is a full-time year-long role offering exposure across Hachette’s publishing division, in editorial, contracts, print and audio production and rights, with the trainee to ‘work closely with publishing teams, authors and agents’, as well as spending time working in-house at literary agency Curtis Brown. The successful applicant will report to Hachette group publishing director Fiona Hazard and will be supported by each departmental manager in the Australian publishing division.

‘Part of Hachette’s Changing the Story initiative, this traineeship aims to begin to address the lack of diversity in publishing alongside our Summer Internship program now in its third year,’ said Hazard. ‘We hope this traineeship demystifies what working in publishing means and will provide the successful candidate with valuable hands-on skills, knowledge, and experience.’

Curtis Brown literary agent Pippa Masson said the agency was delighted to be invited to be a part of traineeship. ‘We hope to be able to contribute to a greater focus on ensuring access for under-represented groups within the industry and look forward to welcoming the successful applicant.’

The traineeship will commence in mid December 2022 and be based in Sydney. For more information see the Hachette website here.
