‘A Kunwinjku Counting Book’ named USBBY honour book

A Kunwinjku Counting Book (Gabriel Maralngurra & Felicity Wright, Enchanted Lion Books) has been named a 2023 United States Board on Books for Young People (USBBY) international honour book.

The USBBY Outstanding International Books List is published each year in the February issue of School Library Journal and as a bookmark. The list recognises books available in the US that originated or was first published in a country other than the US. A Kunwinjku Counting Book is one of 40 books on this year’s honour list.

Each of the 12 entries in A Kunwinjku Counting Book showcases a different animal of West Arnhem Land, with illustrations drawing on traditional Bininj rock art.
