Women’s Prize 2023 longlist announced
The longlist for the 2023 International Women’s Prize for Fiction has been announced.
The 16 titles longlisted for the award are:

- Cursed Bread (Sophie Mackintosh, Hamish Hamilton)
- Demon Copperhead (Barbara Kingsolver, Faber)
- Fire Rush (Jacqueline Crooks, Jonathan Cape)
- Glory (NoViolet Bulawayo, Chatto & Windus)
- Homesick (Jennifer Croft, Charco Press)
- I’m a Fan (Sheena Patel, Grant)
- Memphis (Tara M Stringfellow, John Murray)
- Pod (Laline Paull, Little Brown)
- Stone Blind (Natalie Haynes, Mantle)
- The Bandit Queens (Parini Shroff, Atlantic)
- The Dog of the North (Elizabeth McKenzie, Fourth Estate)
- The Marriage Portrait (Maggie O’Farrell, Headline)
- Trespasses (Louise Kennedy, Bloomsbury)
- Wandering Souls (Cecile Pin, Fourth Estate).
The longlist was selected by judges broadcaster and writer Louise Minchin (chair); novelist Rachel Joyce; journalist, podcaster and writer Bella Mackie; novelist and short story writer Irenosen Okojie; and MP Tulip Siddiq.
Minchin said: ‘This year’s longlist is a glorious celebration of the boundless imagination and creative ambition of women writers over the past year. Every one of these 16 books is excellent and original in its own individual way; they all offer fresh perspectives on history and humanity, exploring hard truths with empathy, sensitivity, directness, and sometimes infectious humour. There is something here for all readers! It has truly been a life-enhancing experience to judge the Women’s Prize for Fiction longlist this year, and we are looking forward to celebrating these voices that need to be heard.’
A shortlist of six novels will be announced on 26 April with the winner to be announced on 14 June.
