Book Depository to close

UK-based online bookseller the Book Depository will close on 26 April.

In a letter to vendors, the Book Depository said it will be winding down its business over the coming weeks, including discontinuing its listings as a marketplace seller and closing its website. ‘We will do this in a structured way to give you, our vendors, and our consumer customers a business as usual experience during this time by fulfilling and shipping the item(s) customers order from us prior to closure,’ writes Book Depository head of vendor management Andy Chart.

The store will stay open for customers to place orders with until 26 April.

The decision to close Book Depository comes after parent company Amazon announced it had decided to ‘eliminate’ a number of positions across its Devices and Books businesses, reports the Guardian. The Book Depository, which was founded in 2004, was acquired by Amazon in 2011.
