Product manager — 12-month parental contract, Sydney
Bloomsbury
We are thrilled to announce a fantastic opportunity for a dynamic Product Manager to join our local team starting in September this year on a 12-month contract.
As a Product Manager at Bloomsbury, you will have the chance to work closely with international colleagues and manage titles from some of the most renowned children’s and adult authors in the world. From J.K. Rowling and Neil Gaiman to Sarah J Maas and Isabel Allende, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the success of their literary works.
This role is all about the book as an experience. You will have the power to make judgements about the sales potential of different titles and passionately pitch and champion them within our organisation. You will also be responsible for ensuring that these books, as physical objects, are manufactured, transported, and delivered with precision and efficiency. Your expertise in supply chain logistics will be highly valued as you navigate the exciting challenges of the publishing industry.
Working on both our esteemed children’s list and an eclectic mix of adult titles, you’ll have the opportunity to shape the literary landscape across genres. As a Product Manager, you will make impactful decisions, collaborate with diverse teams, and ensure the timely delivery of exceptional books to eager readers.
We’re particularly interested in candidates with:
- At least 3 years of experience in book retail or publishing, ideally with a Product Management, Inventory Management or Sales background.
- We welcome applicants with demonstrated experience liaising with warehouse and logistics teams and external suppliers (perhaps you have dealt with the UK branch of an international company, or distributed books for an agency).
- Experience with ordering/ inventory planning, understanding production schedules, shipping logistics and their impact on ordering and supply will be highly regarded.
- Experience in children’s books would also be of benefit.
We are looking for someone who is highly organised, detail focused, self-directed, and enjoys working as part of a team. Experience using Bookmaster and its various inventory screens and/or Biblio would be an advantage. You will need to have intermediate Microsoft Excel and Word skills and be confident learning new software applications.
This full-time, 12-month contract starts in September and offers a hybrid work arrangement, allowing you to spend two days in the office and three days working from the comfort of your home. We understand the importance of work-life balance and flexibility in today’s world.
Bloomsbury is committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion, and is opposed to unlawful discrimination, bullying and harassment. We want to be an attractive employer for all individuals seeking a career in publishing, regardless of background or identity; and we want to create an environment that stimulates creativity and collaboration, is respectful of difference, and supports well-being.
If you are an organised, detail-focused, and self-directed individual with an unwavering passion for books and publishing, we are eager to meet you! Don’t miss this opportunity to join us at Bloomsbury and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the publishing industry.
