Environment Award for Children’s Literature, Karajia Award 2023 winners announced

The Wilderness Society has announced the winners of the 2023 Environment Award for Children’s Literature and the Karajia Award for First Nations children’s storytelling.

The winners in each category are:

Picture fiction (joint winners)

  • Kind (Jess McGeachin)
  • The Tree at Number 43 (Jess McGeachin)

Nonfiction

  • The ABC Kids Guide to Loving the Planet (Jaclyn Crupi, illus by Cheryl Orsini, ABC Books)

Fiction

  • Berani (Michelle Kadarusman, A&U Children’s)

Karajia Award

  • Looking After Country with Fire (Victor Steffensen, illus by Sandra Steffensen, Hardie Grant Explore).

The winners were chosen from shortlists announced in July. The winners were announced at an event as part of Nature Book Week, which runs 4–10 September. For more information, see the Wilderness Society website.
