Baillie Gifford Prize for Nonfiction shortlist

In the UK, the shortlist for this year’s Baillie Gifford Prize for Nonfiction has been announced.
The six shortlisted books are:
- Time to Think: The inside story of the collapse of the Tavistock’s Gender Service for Children (Hannah Barnes, Swift Press)
- Red Memory: Living, remembering and forgetting China’s Cultural Revolution (Tania Branigan, Faber)
- Revolutionary Spring: Fighting for a new world 1848–1849 (Christopher Clark, Allen Lane)
- Time’s Echo: The Second World War, the Holocaust, and the music of remembrance (Jeremy Eichler, Faber)
- B: George Balanchine’s twentieth century (Jennifer Homans, Granta)
- Fire Weather: A true story from a hotter world (John Vaillant, Sceptre).
The winner of the £50,000 (A$95,940) prize will be announced on 16 November.
All works of nonfiction by authors of any nationality are eligible for the award, which is the richest prize for nonfiction in the UK. The winner of last year’s prize was Katherine Rundell for Super-Infinite: The transformations of John Donne (Faber).
