Walkley Book Award longlist announced

The longlist for the Walkley Book Award has been announced. The longlisted works are:

  • The Great Dead Body Teachers (Jackie Dent, Ultimo Press)
  • Ghosts of the Orphanage (Christine Kenneally, Hachette Australia)
  • The Palestine Laboratory: How Israel exports the technology of occupation around the world (Antony Loewenstein, Scribe)
  • Flawed Hero: Truth, lies and war crimes (Chris Masters, A&U)
  • Crossing the Line (Nick McKenzie, Hachette Australia)
  • Hard Labour: Wage theft in the age of inequality, (Ben Schneiders, Scribe)
  • Man-Made: How the bias of the past is being built into the future (Tracey Spicer S&S)
  • Political Lives (Chris Wallace, NewSouth)
  • Tell No One (Brendan Watkins, A&U).

Several journalists and cartoonists have decided not to enter or have withdrawn their entries for this year’s Walkley Awards in protest at the awards’ sponsorship by fossil fuel company Ampol.
