Carbis shortlisted for international poetry award

The poetry collection I Have Decided to Remain Vertical (Puncher & Wattmann) by Melbourne poet and creative writing teacher Gayelene Carbis has been shortlisted for the Welsh-based Poetry Book Awards.

The shortlist also includes the following titles:

  • I Do Everything I’m Told (Megan Fernandes, Tin House)
  • After the Flood Comes the Apologies (Naoise Gale, Nine Pens)
  • The Maggot on Maple Street (Courtenay Schembri Gray, self-published)
  • A Census of Preconceptions (Oz Hardwick, SurVision Books)
  • Why We Fished (Michael Loderstedt, Red Hawk Publications)
  • Helen of Bikini (Phoebe Reeves, Lily Poetry Review Books)
  • Inside Out (Julie-Ann Rowell, Turas Press)
  • Reap (Mara Adamitz Scrupe, Shipwreckt Books)
  • The Two of Them Might Outlast Me (Jeanine Walker, Groundhog Poetry Press).

With a first prize of £400 (A$775), the Poetry Book Awards is an annual, international book award that recognises ‘the best poetry books produced by indie writers, self-published authors or books published by small, truly independent presses’.
