A&U acquires Tutt’s children’s books
Allen & Unwin (A&U) has acquired world rights to Corey Tutt’s children’s titles Caution! This Book Contains Deadly Reptiles (illus by Ben Williams) and Before It Was Called Science, the follow-up to The First Scientists (Hardie Grant Explore).
Caution! is ‘bursting with vibrant illustrations by Ben Williams and cool facts about more than 60 reptiles,’ said A&U. ‘Tutt celebrates First Nations knowledge and Languages for reptiles found on Country, from lizards and snakes to turtles and crocodiles.’
Tutt is the founder and CEO of DeadlyScience, a not-for-profit organisation that provides STEM resources to remote schools in Australia. ‘Firstly, I am super excited to be joining Allen & Unwin to create books to inspire kids to dream big,’ said Tutt. ‘I rely on good relationships to help create the magic of my books, and I believe Allen & Unwin shares the same values as me. I would like to thank Hardie Grant for supporting me as a new author and I will continue to be grateful to everyone who enjoys my work. I am eager to bring my best writing to Allen & Unwin and inspire the next generation to find passion and purpose in their work.’
A&U publisher Melissa Kayser said: ‘I’m incredibly excited to be working with Corey on a program of children’s books that will celebrate First Nations cultures and knowledge, with a focus on STEM. Corey is an absolute powerhouse, and The First Scientists had a huge impact on the Australian children’s publishing landscape.’
Allen & Unwin will publish Caution! This Book Contains Deadly Reptiles in February 2025 and Before It Was Called Science in the second half of 2025.
