Inaugural WestWords Prize shortlist announced

WestWords has announced the shortlist for its inaugural WestWords Prize.

The shortlisted writers (and their manuscripts) are:

  • Amy Anshaw-Nye for ‘The Maydown Girls’
  • Philip Barker for ‘Burning Good Samaritans’
  • Vahida Berberovic for ‘Piggy Tails’
  • Patrick Forrest for ‘What I am to you to them’
  • Barbara Ivusic for ‘Hevelyn Farm’
  • Anith Mukherjee for ‘Apocalypse’
  • May Ngo for ‘The River’.

WestWords said that, with this shortlist, it ‘recognises manuscripts that demonstrate a strong voice, are achieving something bold and different, as well as being close to publication ready’.

This new award was open to completed, previously unpublished manuscripts that were works of either fiction or narrative nonfiction, by authors with a connection to Western Sydney.

The winner of the prize will receive a publication deal with WestWords Books, the adult trade publishing imprint of the organisation. WestWords also ran an inaugural manuscript prize this year in partnership with Ultimo Press.

More information is available on the WestWords website.
