Bestseller Awards: Donaldson overtakes Rowling in units sold

In the UK, Nielsen BookData and BolognaBookPlus have awarded the annual Bestseller Awards, reports BookBrunch.

Based on UK volume sales data, the Bestseller Awards recognise all-time sales across both print and ebook formats, and include several tiers: silver (for sales of more than 250,000 copies), gold (more than 500,000 copies), platinum (sales of more than 1 million copies), and author platinum (for lifetime sales of more than 5 million copies).

Authors taking home awards include Dolly Alderton, Richard Osman, Stanley Tucci, and Rebecca Yarros, with author platinum awards awarded to Dilly Court, Liz Pichon and Dav Pilkey. An inaugural series platinum award was awarded to Guiness World Records, which marks its 70th anniversary in 2025, for sales of more than 12 million copies.

Five titles by prolific duo Julia Donaldson and illustrator Axel Scheffler were recognised across the silver, gold, and platinum categories. With more than 48.6 units of their books sold, the pair has now overtaken JK Rowling (48 million) as the bestselling UK authors by units sold.
