Women’s Prize announces ‘one-off’ Outstanding Contribution Award
In the UK, the Women’s Prize Trust has announced the Women’s Prize Outstanding Contribution Award, a ‘one-off literary honour’ to be awarded to a living female author ‘in recognition of her body of work and significant contribution to literature’, reports BookBrunch.
The winner will be selected from authors on the longlists for the Women’s Prize for Fiction who have published a minimum of five books.
Women’s Prize founder and director Kate Mosse, who will chair the judging panel, said the award was announced to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Women’s Prize for Fiction.
‘In a world where women’s voices are increasingly being silenced, and where the arts themselves are under attack, it is crucially important that we stand together to honour those whose brilliance, skill, dedication and inspiration make such a difference to our lives,’ said Mosse. ‘Books encourage empathy; they help us to stand in other people’s shoes, and to discover worlds other than our own.’
The winner of the award – to be announced on 4 June alongside the 2025 winners of the Women’s Prize for Fiction and the Women’s Prize for Nonfiction – will receive £100,000 (A$209,407) and a special sculpture. There will be no longlist or shortlist.
More information about the prize is available on the Women’s Prize website.
