2025 Storylines Awards announced

The Storylines Trust has announced the 2025 winners of the Storyline Awards in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The 2025 winners are:

Storylines Margaret Mahy Medal and Lecture Award (NZ$2000)

Storylines Te Kahurangi Kāterina Te Heikōkō Mataira Award (NZ$1,500, publication with Huia)

  • ‘Te Taniwha Tōnekeneke’ by Brianne Te Paa

Storylines Tom Fitzgibbon Award (NZ$1,500, publication with Scholastic NZ)

  • ‘The Keepers of the Broken Coast’ by Shaun Barnett

Storylines Prize for an Unpublished Writer (NZ$500) (from the Storylines Tom Fitzgibbon Award shortlist, sponsored by the Friends of Storylines)

  • ‘Bug Boy’ by Leah Carter

Storylines Janice Marriott Mentoring Award (six months’ mentoring)

  • ‘The Goose Bay Gang and the Secret Treasure’ by Madeleine Roberts

Storylines Gaelyn Gordon Award 

  • Kuwi’s First Egg by Kat Merewether, illustrated by Kat Quin (Illustrated Publishing).

The awards contribute to Storylines’ ‘advocacy for the development of New Zealand children’s literature’ and offer prizes ‘to writers, illustrators, publishers and those working in the field of children’s literature and literacy’.
