Bakers Lane Books launches as new independent publisher

A new independent publishing house, Bakers Lane Books, has officially launched this week. Led by publisher Ginny Grant, Bakers Lane Books will focus on publishing a select number of quality adult fiction and non-fiction titles each year.

Grant, who has worked in trade publishing for more than 20 years, said the new venture allows her to support authors she believes in: ‘It is truly a dream to now be able to back authors that I believe in and see their work published.’ She also highlighted growing challenges for local authors, noting that barriers to publication have increased, leaving many talented writers unpublished.

Bakers Lane Books aims to support Australian writers, particularly new and emerging voices, addressing what Grant sees as significant barriers in the current publishing landscape. The company’s Fearless Press imprint will focus specifically on publishing the work of Australian women writers in all their diversity. The first Fearless title will be released later this year. Bakers Lane Books will also shortly launch the Fearless Prize, a $10,000 award to support emerging talent.
