History (joint prize)
- Combee: Harriet Tubman, the Combahee River Raid, and Black Freedom During the Civil War (Edda L Fields-Black, OUP)
- Native Nations: A Millennium in North America (Kathleen DuVal, Random House)
Poetry
- New and Selected Poems (Marie Howe, W W Norton).
