Fogarty Literary Award 2025 shortlist announced
The shortlist for the 2025 Fogarty Literary Award has been announced.
Shortlisted titles, chosen from 38 entries, include:
- ‘Boy Friends’ by Seth Malacari
- ‘Glimmers in the Sea Glass’ by Chuckie Raven
- ‘Out There, In Here’ by Jessica Baker
- ‘Wreckage’ by Serena Moss.
Highly commended works include:
- ‘Dark Red’ by Kayla Browne
- ‘Encore’ by Elliot Stone
- ‘Wagger’s Champloo’ by Patrick Marlborough.
Judges for this year’s prize include Fremantle Press publishers Georgia Richter and Cate Sutherland, writer Brooke Dunnell, and Centre for Stories program coordinator Camila Egusquiza Santa Cruz.
Of the shortlisted stories, Richter said: ‘The rendering of place in each of the shortlisted works also celebrates regional Australia – our differences and the many things we have in common.’
Presented biennially, the Fogarty Literary Award recognises an unpublished manuscript of fiction, narrative nonfiction, or young adult fiction by a Western Australian writer aged between 18 and 35. The winner will receive $20,000, a publishing contract with Fremantle Press and a $1500 writing fellowship from Centre for Stories.
This year’s winner will be announced on Tuesday 3 June 2025.
The winner of the 2023 Fogarty Literary Award was Katherine Allum for her novel The Skeleton House.
