ALS Gold Medal 2025 longlist announced

The longlist for the 2025 Australian Literature Society (ALS) Gold Medal has been announced.

Longlisted works are:

  • 36 Ways of Writing a Vietnamese Poem (Nam Le, Scribner)
  • The Burrow (Melanie Cheng, Text)
  • Chinese Postman (Brian Castro, Giramondo)
  • The Degenerates (Raeden Richardson, Text)
  • Ghost Cities (Siang Lu, UQP)
  • Highway 13 (Fiona McFarlane, A&U)
  • The Honeyeater (Jessie Tu, A&U)
  • Monument (Bonny Cassidy, Giramondo)
  • One Another (Gail Jones, Text)
  • Refugia (Elfie Shiosaki, Magabala)
  • The Season (Helen Garner, Text)
  • Tintinnabulum (Judith Beveridge, Giramondo).

The 2025 judges are Brigid Rooney (chair), Joseph Steinberg and Margaret Harris.

Awarded annually for an outstanding literary work in the preceding calendar year, the ALS Gold Medal is Australia’s longest running literary award. The winner, to be announced 30 June 2025, receives a gold medal.

Last year’s winner was Alexis Wright for Praiseworthy (Giramondo).
