Mary Gilmore Award 2025 shortlist announced

The Association for the Study of Australian Literature (ASAL) has announced the shortlist for the 2025 Mary Gilmore Award, a prize for a poet’s first book of poetry.

Judges Kate Fagan (chair), Jazz Money and Mark Byron shortlisted the following poets and their books:

  • Bilal Hafda for An Army of Light (Guest House)
  • Ashley Haywood for Polyp (Vagabond)
  • Hasib Hourani for Rock Flight (Giramondo)
  • Nam Le for 36 Ways of Writing a Vietnamese Poem (Scribner)
  • Roslyn Orlando for Ekhō (Upswell)
  • Barrina South for Makarra (Recent Work Press).

The winner will be announced on 30 June at an awards night during the ASAL + IABA conference.

Last year’s winner was Dan Hogan for Secret Third Thing (Cordite).
