Murdoch acquires Leong memoir
Murdoch Books has acquired world rights to Guts by Melissa Leong, a ‘gripping, incisive, and darkly funny memoir’.
‘Guts is a powerful exploration of identity, resilience and finding the courage to forge your own path,’ said the publisher. ‘In these pages, Melissa confronts the highs and lows of her remarkable journey – navigating racism, life in the public eye, and mental health challenges to finding her voice and recognising the power of vulnerability – all while celebrating the food that fed her soul and ultimately has shaped her life.’
Leong is an Australian freelance food writer, food critic, television host, radio broadcaster, and cookbook author. She was previously a judge on Masterchef Australia and is currently a judge on Dessert Masters. She was nominated for a Gold Logie in 2022.
Discussing the acquisition, Leong said: ‘This is scary and daunting, but it’s a story I really needed to share, without holding back.’
Publishing director Jane Morrow said: ‘Melissa Leong is a force – fiercely intelligent, disarmingly honest and deeply inspiring. I’m delighted she agreed to put pen to paper, and I’m honoured to help bring her voice to readers in this inspiring book.’
Murdoch plans to publish Guts in October 2025.
