Ursula K Le Guin Prize for Fiction shortlist

The Ursula K Le Guin Foundation has announced the 2025 shortlist for the $25,000 (A$38,861) Ursula K Le Guin Prize for Fiction.

This award celebrates ‘realists of a larger reality, who can imagine real grounds for hope and see alternatives to how we live now’.

Nominated by the public, the eight shortlisted titles are:

  • Rakesfall (Vajra Chandrasekera, Tor Books)
  • Archangels of Funk (Andrea Hairston, Tor Books)
  • Blackheart Man (Nalo Hopkinson, Saga Press)
  • The Sapling Cage (Margaret Killjoy, The Feminist Press)
  • The West Passage (Jared Pechaček, Tor Books)
  • Remember You Will Die (Eden Robins, Sourcebooks Landmark)
  • The City in Glass (Nghi Vo, Tor Books)
  • North Continent Ribbon (Ursula Whitcher, Neon Hemlock Press).

The judges include Matt Bell, Indra Das, Kelly Link, Sequoia Nagamatsu and Rebecca Roanhorse. The 2025 winner will be announced on 21 October, which is Le Guin’s birthday.

Last year’s winner was It Lasts Forever and Then It’s Over! (Anne de Marcken, Giramondo).
