HarperCollins acquires Tony Abbott nonfiction
HarperCollins Australia has acquired world rights to former prime minister Tony Abbott’s Australia: A History.
According to the publisher, the book will include a forward by Geoffrey Blainey and will explore how Australia moved from a convict colony to today’s democracy.
Abbott was Australian prime minister from 2013 to 2015. He is the author of The Minimal Monarchy, How to Win the Constitutional War and Battlelines.
Discussing the book, Abbott said: ‘I take readers from our convict beginnings to our modern democracy; along the way covering the farmers, miners, soldiers, carers and democratic pioneers that have made us great: a unique commonwealth with an Indigenous heritage, a British foundation and an immigrant character. I hope this history might foster a deeper patriotism for this special land.’
Publisher Mary Rennie said: ‘Tony Abbott provides a unique view into the events, people and attitudes that have brought us to where we are today, and he tells our story with affection, clarity and in an immensely readable style.’
HarperCollins plans to publish Australia, a History in October 2025.
