UWAP acquires Riots by Fiona Skyring

UWA Publishing (UWAP) has acquired world rights to Riots by Fiona Skyring.

Riots is a nonfiction title delving into the Australian riots that occurred between 1918–1920 and involved returned soldiers. ‘Against a backdrop of social upheaval, mass bereavement, and a cost-of-living crisis, these riots reveal a side of Australia’s post-war experience that has long been untold,’ said the publisher.

Based in Sydney on lands of the Gadigal people of the Eora nation, Skyring is a historian and writer. Her work Justice: A history of the Aboriginal Legal Service of Western Australia won the WA Premier’s Prize, the WA History Prize and the Margaret Medcalf Award and was a finalist for the Human Rights Awards.

Skyring said, ‘I am really happy to be working with UWA Publishing again and I am looking forward to the end result of this project that I have been working on for a long time.’

Publisher Kate Pickard said, ‘We are excited to be working with Fiona again and look forward to publishing Riots this October in our 90th year of publishing.’

UWAP plans to release Riots in October 2025.
