Davitt Awards 2025 shortlists announced
Sisters in Crime has announced the shortlists for the 2025 Davitt Awards for the best crime books by Australian women.
The shortlisted titles in each category are:
Adult novels
- Highway 13 (Fiona McFarlane, A&U)
- The Rewilding (Donna M Cameron, Transit Lounge)
- Safe Haven (Shankari Chandran, Ultimo Press)
- To the River (Vikki Wakefield, Text)
- What I Would Do to You (Georgia Harper, Vintage)
Nonfiction books
- Crimes of the Cross (Anne Manne, Black Inc.)
- In Bad Faith: Inside a Secret Ultra-Orthodox Sect and the Brutal Betrayal It Tried to Hide (Dassi Erlich, Hachette)
- The Lasting Harm: Witnessing the Trial of Ghislaine Maxwell (Lucia Osborne-Crowley, A&U)
Young adult novels
- Into the Mouth of the Wolf (Erin Gough, HGCP)
- Look Me in the Eye (Jane Godwin, Lothian)
Children’s novels
- The Midwatch (Judith Rossell, HGCP)
- Outlaw Girls (Emily Gale & Nova Weetman, Text)
- Queen of Dogs (Joe Featherstone, Walker).
Judges for the 2025 awards include author and editor Ruth Wykes; author and academic Christina Lee; Sisters in Crime secretary Moraig Kisler; author Romany Rzechowicz; author and medical professional Philomena Horsley; editor, blogger and reviewer Ashleigh Meikle; and editor and Bendigo Writers Festival curator Cecile Shanahan.
Winners of the four category awards – along with recipients of additional awards for best debut and the readers’ choice award – will be announced at a gala dinner on 5 September in Melbourne.
Last year’s winners include When One of Us Hurts (Monica Vuu, Macmillan), The Schoolgirl, Her Teacher and His Wife (Rebecca Hazel, Vintage), Eleanor Jones Is Not a Murderer (Amy Doak, Penguin), The Wolves of Greycoat Hall (Lucinda Gifford, Walker Books), The Half Brother (Christine Keighery, Ultimo) and The Benevolent Society of Ill-Mannered Ladies (Alison Goodman, HarperCollins).
