A New Approach releases position paper
Australian arts and culture think tank A New Approach (ANA) has released ‘Imagine 2035’, a position paper on the future of arts in Australia.
Timed to coincide with the halfway point of national cultural policy Revive, the position paper is ‘an ambitious vision for the future of Australian culture and creativity,’ said the organisation in its announcement.
Looking beyond the current policy, the paper ‘outlines a practical framework for a new national arts and culture strategy, modelled on the national sport strategy, Sport Horizon’.
In its accompanying draft ‘strategy on a page’, the paper lists six key priorities:
- Culturally engaged communities (with a focus on access and removing participation barriers)
- Creativity, openness and learning (with a focus on investment in early years and school education, as well as community activities)
- Training, skills, workforce and digital transformation (with a focus on specialist education and training to address areas such as digital capacity and career sustainability)
- A high-performing, high-impact industry (with a focus on innovation and impact)
- Strengthening of economies and places (with an emphasis on place-based approaches)
- International exchange, engagement and trade (with a priority on the Asia-Pacific region).
ANA CEO Kate Fielding said, ‘For the first time in our modern democracy, an arts and culture system that delivers for all Australians is within our reach. With practical action, we can achieve multi-partisan, multi-government and outcomes-focused cultural policy, securing our place as a cultural powerhouse.’
The organisation also recently released a report into methods of supporting arts and cultural activity in Australia beyond funding.
‘Imagine 2035’ is available on the ANA website.
