Global Book Crawl 2026 dates released

The 2026 Global Book Crawl (GBC) will take place on April 20–26.

GBC is ‘a worldwide celebration of local (indie, bricks and mortar) bookshops and those who love them,’ said organisers. ‘Each city or region curates its own crawl: a self-guided route through local bookshops.’

In 2025, 63 Australian bookstores across the country participated in the inaugural event.

GBC organisers noted that, during the 2025 event, many stores ‘reported an increase in sales of 12–24%, with one shop reporting an increase of 300%’.

Among Australian results, Melbourne CBD had approximately 1700 participants, Sydney had over 500, Hobert over 200; while regionally, the Mornington Peninsula, North East Victoria, the Blue Mountains and Newcastle each reported 5–50 participants, said organisers.

The 2026 national coordinators are Mark Rubbo (Readings), Anna Low (Potts Point) and Jaye Chin-Dusting (Mary Martin Bookshops).

Bookstores interested in participating in the 2026 crawl are asked to email Chin-Dusting.
