Two Australian libraries named among world’s most beautiful
Two Australian libraries have been named in the ten most beautiful libraries in the world for 2025, as announced by 1000 Libraries magazine.
In second place, the State Library of South Australia is celebrated for its ‘gorgeous Victorian design with a long, barrel-vaulted skylight that lends an almost transcendent elegance to this literary space’.
And in seventh place, Australia’s oldest public library, the State Library of Victoria, is included for its ‘a stunning Neo-Classical design’ and the redevelopments which ‘gave the place a new shine, expanding some spaces and modernising others, blending historic architecture with contemporary design’.
Dublin’s Trinity College Library took out first place, with European libraries represented in seven of the top ten rankings.
1000 Libraries staff members chose a shortlist of 20 libraries, which was then voted on by the public, attracting over 200,000 votes from around the world.
