Moss, Hess announced as 2025 LYBD ambassadors

BookPeople has announced authors Tara Moss and Megan Hess as the 2025 adult and children’s author ambassadors, respectively, for this year’s Love Your Bookshop Day (LYBD) campaign.

As ambassadors, Moss and Hess are ‘tasked with sharing the magic of local bookshops ahead of the big day,’ said BookPeople.

Moss is the author of 15 novels, a human rights advocate and a holistic practitioner. Her most recent books are a series of historical crime thrillers featuring 1940s investigator Billie Walker (most recently, The Italian Secret, HarperCollins).

She said, ‘Books aren’t simply an escape; they’re a powerful tool for self-discovery, and there is nowhere like a bookshop for meeting the next stage of your evolution.’

Hess is a fashion illustrator and author. She has illustrated portraits for the New York Times, Italian Vogue and Vanity Fair. She is also the author of the Claris and World of Claris books. Her most recent release is Claris: Dazzling Diamond Egg (Hardie Grant Children’s Publishing).

She said, ‘Bookshops have been there for me my entire life. My youngest memories are of those thrilling first steps into a bookshop to choose a picture book. Then in primary school, I was onto chapter books – feeling so very grown up. Then as a teenager, my visits to bookshops led me to the art section, where I would pore over art history coffee-table books and get lost in their beautiful pages. Today I still visit bookstores with the same excitement I had when I was five years old. Bookstores have been there for me every step of the way, and it’s my mission to make sure they never disappear.’

LYBD runs this year on Saturday 11 October, under the theme, ‘Discover the magic. Discover you.’
