Novel Insight launches Reviewer’s Choice Award

Book review site Novel Insight has launched a new prize – the Reviewer’s Choice Award.

With Australian-authored books eligible when reviewed within the first 12 months of their release date, the award will be presented in three categories:

  • Junior primary: Picture books and early chapter books aimed at 4-to-8-year-olds
  • Upper primary: Junior and middle-grade fiction aimed at 9-to-13-year-olds
  • Secondary: Titles aimed at 13-to-17-year-olds.

Books that have been awarded a score of 4 or higher (out of 5) on the site are eligible for nomination. Nominated titles will then be evaluated on ‘the overall reading experience and the broadest appeal to the age group of the category’.

Finalists across three categories will receive a complimentary subscription to Novel Insight and a digital award seal. Winners in each category will receive $250.

Founded in late 2023, Novel Insight is managed by children’s publisher Wombat Books, with a stated primary audience of schools and families. The site publishes ‘content information that informs educators, individuals, authors, booksellers and more about the content of a story’, with about 600–700 books reviewed annually.

More information about the new award is available on the Novel Insight website.
