Transit Lounge acquires new Cameron novel

Transit Lounge has acquired world rights to Bloomfield, the third novel by Donna M Cameron, in a deal brokered by Jeanne Ryckmans at Key People Literary Management.

‘When the eccentric Honeywell family move into Bloomfield House, the neighbours, already on edge and suspicious, don’t know what to make of this odd family who dress outlandishly and throw bizarre parties,’ said the publisher. ‘Two things are certain: they’re renters and their four-year-old son is about to disappear.’

Cameron is a playwright, radio dramatist and film writer who now writes novels. Her debut novel, Beneath the Mother Tree (MidnightSun, 2018), was listed as a top Australian Fiction Read for 2018 by the Adelaide Advertiser, longlisted for the Davitt awards and was a finalist in the 2019 Adaptable program. She was awarded a Varuna Fellowship for her second book, The Rewilding (Transit Lounge) which was published in 2024.

She said, ‘I’m beyond thrilled to be working again with Transit Lounge Publishing, this time with a novel that came out of my heartbreak over the unending urban development happening between the Gold Coast and Brisbane where I grew up, but it could be the edge of any Australian city. It is my elegy to a lost landscape and a prayer for humanity in a character driven suburban who-done-it.’

Transit Lounge publisher Barry Scott said, ‘Bloomfield is rich with diverse characters. The setting of a new housing estate torn apart by suspicions surrounding the mystery of disappearing children, and the eccentric Honeywell family, the latest arrivals to Bloomfield estate, are woven into a novel that is both joyous and disarming.’

Transit Lounge plans to release Bloomfield in early 2027.
