Jewish Poetry Project exhibition announced

The Sydney Jewish Writers Festival has announced the Jewish Poetry Project, a month-long outdoor exhibition of Jewish poetry.

Curated on the theme ‘The Door Is Always Open’, the exhibition is set to present five installations featuring over 20 poems by Jewish writers from Australia and around the world. Among poets with work included are Anna Jacobson, Joanne Fedler, and Leonard Cohen.

In the exhibit, visitors can ‘hear poems through QR codes, create [their] own verses on a magnetic-word wall, leave a line for others to discover, or take a photo and share [their] favourite poem’.

Shalom Collective deputy director of programs Anna Stern said, ‘Curating this collection of Jewish poetry has been a unique and inspiring process. Hosting an outdoor, unticketed literary exhibition pushes us to think differently. We ask ourselves: What will someone walking by on their morning run, or stopping for a swim, pause to experience? Our goal is to expose the richness and diversity of Jewish writing to audiences who might not otherwise encounter it.’

The Jewish Poetry Project exhibition is free and unticketed. It is set to take place in the Bondi Pavilion Courtyard, Sydney, 10 October–5 November.
