Ventura acquires Simon debut novel
Ventura Press has acquired world rights to Susan Simon’s debut novel The Secrets of St Jude’s, a ‘private school noir and commercial thriller’.
The Secrets of St Jude’s follows the story of Rosie Gladshaw, who is ‘appointed as the new principal to lead St Jude’s into a bright new future,’ said the publisher. ‘However, Rosie soon uncovers a web of secrets, abuse and illicit affairs – and a murder which must be solved. But will Rosie be the whistle-blower even if it puts her and family in danger?’
Simon is a former school principal in Brisbane and a writer.
‘For all my life I have loved writing – personal, professional and academic – but have never had the chance to write a full-length work of fiction,’ said Simon. ‘This book was such a joy to write, turning some of my own experiences in education into a sensational academic noir story. Whilst creating some colourful Machiavellian characters, I also wanted to highlight what is important in schools and the obstacles that can derail good intentions.’
Publisher Jane Curry said, ‘When a former private school principal sent me a contemporary noir fiction set in a girls’ school, I was intrigued and read the manuscript that weekend. It packs a very powerful punch, and I am delighted we now have it on our list.’
Ventura plans to release The Secrets of St Jude’s in April next year.
