Farrells wins best LYBD display

Mornington Peninsula bookshop Farrells has won the Love Your Bookshop Day (LYBD) award for the best window display.

According to BookPeople, the Australian booksellers association, “Their amazing window display captured the spirit of the day perfectly.”

Farrells wins a $500 voucher to put towards the shop’s staffroom.

Owner Kate Horton told Books+Publishing, “We just try to go as colourful as possible and incorporate an element that can involve our community directly. For a number of years we did a graffiti window where people could add their own favourite books and authors, and the hearts were a bit of an evolution of that which we’ve done for a few years now.

“Our community really seems to enjoy and get on board with it – it is particularly lovely as we have them available in store for the weeks leading up to LYBD, so we progressively populate the window in the lead up, which adds a lovely dynamic nature to the whole design.”

Horton added, “We were delighted to win – always lovely to have support from BookPeople – and lovely to be recognised as I know how many other bookshops put together their own wonderful windows.”

LYBD, which took place on 11 October, aimed “to reignite Australians’ love of reading and remind people that no matter one’s life stage, local bookshops are spaces of discovery, inspiration and connection”.
