Remembering Moya Costello
As a tribute to author, critic and academic Moya Costello, who died recently, a memorial service will be held on 22 November 2025.
Costello’s former publisher, Spineless Wonders, writes:
We are very saddened to hear of the passing of Moya Costello in October this year. We were enormously proud to publish and showcase Moya’s inventive prose poems in many of our microlit anthologies over the past 13 years and honoured that she judged the 2019 Carmel Bird Digital Literary Award.
As well as appearing in many of our print publications, Moya was always delighted to have her work adapted to multi-platform formats. She relished the opportunity to collaborate with artists, actors, composers and filmmakers.
It is hard to think of experimental prose poetry and microlit in Australia without Moya Costello being part of it, or cheering it enthusiastically on. We not only admired her writing, but we were charmed and entertained by her wit and playfulness. We will miss Moya greatly.
A livestreamed memorial for Moya will be held from 2pm to 5pm on Saturday 22 November.
As a tribute to Moya, Spineless Wonders has put together a short video. It includes a contribution from senior editor Cassandra Atherton and some of Moya’s works narrated by her as well as by others.
